"Toni Erdmann" had its world premiere on May 14 as part of the main competition at Cannes 2016, and quickly became a frontrunner for the Palme d'Or. Maren Ade, whose previous credits include "Everyone Else" and "The Forest For The Trees," won over both the audience at the Croisette and the international press, which was full of praise. Several scenes were met with uproarious laughter and applause at the press screening and the premiere, bringing tears to many viewers' eyes. Later, critics hailed the father--daughter story as the long-awaited reinvigoration of German cinema.
The film was shot with ARRI ALEXA cameras and postproduction services including online, grading, VFX and DCP creation were handled by ARRI Media in Berlin. Patrick Orth, Maren Ade and senior colorist Philipp Orgassa worked together to create the look. After "Hedi Schneider Is Stuck," from director Sonja Heiss, "Toni Erdmann" is the second project that producers Janine Jakowski and Jonas Donrbach from Komplizen Film have completed at ARRI Media.
