Tom Tykwer's One Fine Day Films wins First Steps Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Berlin – Yesterday the 17th annual First Steps Awards ceremony took place in Berlin. With these awards the Deutsche Filmakademie recognizes outstanding achievements by graduating German film students; this year a special Honorary Award was also presented to One Fine Day Films.

One Fine Day was founded in 2008 by the German director Tom Tykwer (Perfume, The International, Cloud Atlas, A Hologram for the King) and his wife Marie Steinmann-Tykwer. It is a non-profit incorporated association and is registered as an NGO in Kenya, where it regularly involves over 700 children from impoverished slums in creative clubs that encompass dance, ballet, painting, drama, music, circus acrobatics, and creative writing. Through One Fine Day Films, it also supports young African filmmakers by helping them to develop and produce their own stories.

As a result of the annual One Fine Day Film Workshops in Kenya, where budding filmmakers are mentored and tutored by experienced professionals, five full-length movies have been produced. All of them have been selected for international film festivals and positively reviewed. Most recently, director Mbithi Masya’s debut feature Kati Kati won the Prize of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.

ARRI has supported One Fine Day Films as a partner since its beginnings and contributes to the realization of all movies developed through the workshops. ARRI Rental supplies camera equipment, while ARRI Media provides picture postproduction service, including visual effects. ARRI looks forward to participating further in the exceptional work carried out by One Fine Day Films and congratulates it on the well-deserved First Steps Honorary Award.
