Yes. Both do. There’s no better or worse, ARRICORE plays strong where ARRIRAW is simply too much.

Color wise ARRICORE is as flexible as ARRIRAW or ProRes since REVEAL Color Science, ARRI’s image processing engine, develops all recording formats to the same target (LogC4) within the same pipeline.

This is a fixed setting, ARRICORE is our lightweight codec to cater the bandwith demands of higher speeds.

ARRICORE is not uncompressed. It uses a sophisticated new compression method for RGB data.

ARRICORE will be available in all future ARRI cameras, starting with ALEXA 35 Xtreme (2025).

ALEXA 35, ALEXA 265, ALEXA Mini LF, and older cameras will not be updated with ARRICORE capability.

When you exactly know how the cooking took place you can do some uncooking in post, reversing it to a prior state. That’s when you apply modifications.

We’ve successfully introduced the first ALEXA in 2010 with the help of ProRes. While ProRes remains a corner stone of ARRI’s cameras, we saw the need for a new-style codec to complete our in-camera capabilities. This is ARRICORE. Building on current state-of-the-art technologies.

No, ARRICORE is available for free on all ALEXA 35 Xtreme models – from Base to Premium. ARRICORE will not be available for ALEXA 35 or older camera models.

ARRICORE is a debayered and compressed RGB codec, where ARRIRAW is an unencrypted and uncompressed RAW format.

While we don’t like compression as it sounds like you would get rid of something in which we’ve invested a great deal beforehand to create and capture, we’ve decided to compress little as we can but as much as we must in order to make a difference for ALEXA 35 Xtreme.

ARRICORE is not limited to a certain dynamic range. It is the sensor’s output for high speeds that is feeding a limited dynamic range to the ARRICORE encoder.

ARRICORE is not only light on the drives but also an agile companion for editorial: 3^rd party software can either choose to decode the full image or pick a proxy resolution for faster display of thumbnails or previews.

Currently there’s one ARRICORE flavor. We’re looking into further optimizations that would allow us to run ARRICORE at a lower data rate without making compromises on image quality.
