"A Thief’s Daughter" ("La hija de un ladrón")

Sara is 22 and has always been alone. Her only companion is her 6-month-old son. Dani is the man of her life and also the father of her child, but they are not a couple anymore. With her younger brother, Sara dreams of rebuilding the family she has never had. But one day Manuel returns. The father who abandoned them both now wants to regain the companionship of his children. But there are certain wounds that can’t be healed.

Director: Belén Funes

Belén Funes, born in Barcelona, studied film directing at the Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalunya (ESCAC) and screenwriting at the San Antonio de los Baños Film School (EICTV), before starting to work in the film industry. Her first short film, "Runaway" "Sara a la fug"), which was produced by Isabel Coixet in 2015, landed Belén a Goya nomination. In 2016 Variety shortlisted Belén as one of the ten Spanish talents to track. "A Thief's Daughter", Belen’s feature debut, taking its inspiration from RUNAWAY and was the winner of the Gaudí Academy Award for Best Film in non-Catalan Language and for Best Director. The Goya Academy awarded her for Best First Direction.

Cinematographer: Neus Ollé AEC I BSC

Neus Ollé, originally from Barcelona and an award winning cinematographer, graduated from Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalunya (ESCAC) and then went to National Film & TV School (NFTS) in the UK to study for a Masters in Cinematography. Shortly after graduating she shot her first feature "El Cant del Ocells" ("Birdsongs") by Albert Serra which premiered at Cannes Film Festival and won her an award for Best Cinematography. Since then she’s been shooting for different film and TV productions and series in Europe. For "La inútil" and "La hija de un ladrón" she was awarded for Best Cinematography at international film festivals. Neus combines her drama work with commercials, music videos and fashion films.
