ARRI at IDFA in Amsterdam
From 16th to 27th November 2016 the next International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) takes place in the capital of the Netherlands. With around 3,000 international documentary professionals in attendance, several hundred screenings, workshops, panel discussions and other events, it is arguably one of the biggest and most important festivals of its kind.
In 2016 ARRI is once again supporting IDFA as a partner and sponsoring two prestigious, jury-awarded prizes: the ARRI IDFA Award for Best Student Documentary, worth EUR 5,000, as well as the IDFA Special Jury Award for Student Documentary, worth EUR 2,500. In addition, both winners get free use of an ARRI AMIRA camera for eight weeks during their next film production.
Last year the ARRI IDFA Award for Best Student Documentary went to US-based filmmaker Melissa Langer for MY ALEPPO. Tamar Kay from Israel won the IDFA Special Jury Award for Student Documentary for his film THE MUTE’S HOUSE.

Furthermore, ARRI will host two exclusive dinners for directors and producers at IDFA 2016. On 19th and 21st November in the Amsterdam restaurant Sluizer, around 100 filmmakers will get the chance to network in a relaxed atmosphere and learn more about the ARRI AMIRA. With its multi-purpose adaptability and single-user ergonomics, this shoulder-mounted camera offers the best overall picture quality and intuitive usability for documentaries and many other production types.
“It is a big honor for us to be part of the IDFA universe,” says Markus Duerr, AMIRA product manager at ARRI. “It gives us a chance to meet all the fantastic filmmakers – to converse with them and learn more about their needs. It also gives them the opportunity to get a hands-on look at our products, particularly our AMIRA camera system, which is a very suitable tool for documentary filmmaking.”
ARRI employees including Markus Frees (l) and Markus Duerr will again attend IDFA
