Wireless Remote Control WRC-1
Everything Under Control
With the new WRC-1 (Wireless Remote Control) ARRI completes its wireless lens control system, offering complete control of all camera parameters without cumbersome cable connections between the hand control units and the camera. The WRC-1 allows control of camera speed, shutter angle and lens iris. Its special strength are the many possibilities of combining and compensating parameters to keep exposure constant. Pre-programmed iris scales and an instant iris open function (Zap-button) for the quick check of the finder image add to the functionality of the system.

With a large hand wheel, all values can be accurately adjusted. Alternatively automatically controlled ramp functions are pre-programmable and can be repeated by simply pushing a button. The various adjustment functions can be combined individually. Only one of the effects the WRC-1 offers in a convenient way is a change of depth of field without a visible exposure difference. When changing the lens iris at a constant camera speed, the resulting exposure difference is automatically compensated for with the mirror shutter. In the past this effect was very difficult to achieve and the results where less accurate.

With the WRC-1 the user simply selects a master value to be adjusted - either lens iris, mirror shutter or camera speed - and a compensation method as required. Unlike the RCU-1, exposure differences of more than four stops can now be compensated. Of course, it is also possible to set up sequences for special exposure changes in user mode. Maximum flexibility, modular integration into the existing system and an easy-to-use design were the goals of this concept.

The WRC-1 is the new powerful remote control
for all new ARRI cameras (535, 535B, 435, 16SR3).
The Wireless Remote Control WRC-1 incorporates all the features of the successful RCU-1 extended with the possibility to control the iris of the lens.
Due to the radio transmission the camera can be operated without worrying about cables anymore.

The WRC-1 gives remote access to all camera control functions plus the possibility of ramps of all kinds. The following ramps are possible:

  • ramp fps
  • ramp shutter angle
  • ramp Iris (new feature compared to the RCU-1)

The ramps can either be programed (lasting a certain time) or they can be controlled by the knob below the display.

To keep the exposure time constant it is possible to compensate for the change in fps, shutter angle or Iris with the shutter angle, the iris or even both of them. This enables the user for example to change the cameras shutter angle and compensate it by the iris, resulting just in a change of the depht of field.

• off

no compensation

• Iris

the change in fps or shutter angle is compensated by the iris

• Shutter
the change in fps or Iris is compensated by the shutter angle
• max Iris
for changes that need more compensation than the lens Iris can handle the rest of the compensation is done by the shutter angle
• max Shutter for changes that need more compensation than the shutter angle can handle the rest of the compensation is done by the iris
• Shutter /
Iris 50%
the compensation is done 50% by the shutter angle and 50% by the iris
• User in user mode compensations can be programmed that do not lead to a constant exposure time

The WRC-1 fits perfectly into the new ARRI Wireless Lens Control System, it is connected to a regular Wireless Main Unit WMU-1. The camera has to be connected to a Universal Motor Controller UMC-1 with an attached Universal Radio Module URM-1.

The WRC-1 can also be operated via cable but without the iris control features. In this case the WRC-1 has to be connected to the Wireless Handgrip Attachment of the Wireless Lens Control System and is connected directly to the camera via a cable.
