Weta Digital Purchases an ARRISCAN

After intense evaluations at Weta Digital Ltd. in Wellington/New Zealand, including comparisons of image scans from other scanners available in the market, Weta Digital and Peter Jackson (The ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy), have decided to purchase the ARRISCAN.

“Having Weta as a client for the ARRILASER and now also for the ARRISCAN is an honor for the whole ARRI team”, says Stefan Kramper, Director of Sales and Marketing, ARRI Digital Systems.

“It is gratifying to hear that all other film scanners fell short compared to the ARRISCAN.”

He adds: “Weta is well known in the business; they have won the last 3 VFX Oscars. After their thorough evaluation we are more than proud that they decided on the ARRISCAN.”

The ARRISCAN scans in a speed of 1 frame per second in 2K resolution and 4 seconds per frame in 4K resolution, and complements  ARRI's offerings for the Digital Intermediate process. With the ARRILASER. ARRI Color Management System and ARRISCAN, ARRI provides all the main components necessary for the Digital Intermediate workflow.

Pete Williams, Head of Digital Imaging at Weta Digital Ltd. comments: “After months of evaluations, we decided on the ARRISCAN as our next generation film scanner. The scanning speed was an exiting feature but not if it compromised the image quality. Our tests showed there was zero compromise.”

He adds: “Working alongside our existing ARRILASERs, the ARRISCAN now gives us a fully integrated scanning and recording pipeline.”
