Stunts
with ARRIMOTION
The biggest German action and stunt production
company - ACTION CONCEPT, lead by Stuntman Hermann
Joha, recently used the ARRIMOTION system for
a stunt sequence for the film “Alarm fuer
Cobra 11”.
The script required a man jumping out of a window
and landing on a fast driving car. This stunt
would have been dangerous, even for a very experienced
Stuntman. So Director Roland Leyer, DOP Andreas
Heine and chief editor of ACTION CONCEPT and Stunt
Coordinator Hermann Joha developed a motion control
move to make this shot possible.
The first pass was filmed only with the car in
the picture. The pan was stored in the ARRIMOTION
system. Then the window was prepared for the stunt.
It needed exact timing to synchronize the jump
with the passing car, without seeing the car,
of course. Set coordinator Alain Courtois needed
only two rehearsals to achieve a perfectly timed
jump through the window.
The picture of the video assist was recorded by
a Laptop computer and the two passes were edited
and composited on the set to give the director
the opportunity to check timing and the look of
the shot right away.
This procedure is a good way to let actors appear
in dangerous situations without actually endangering
the actor. With the ARRIMOTION system those kind
of shots can be achieved in a simple and fast
manner without having to rig a giant motion control
system on the set.
