ARRI L7 lights equip Italian TV studio
Recently, the ARRI Italy team successfully completed a project for the TCI (Telecomunicazioni Italia) television studio in Milan, creating a spectacular lighting setup with ARRI luminaires. The studio has been equipped primarily with ARRI L-Series LED technology, to ensure flexible, efficient and highly sophisticated lighting configurations that allow complete control over the color and intensity of light.
This particular project was developed in collaboration with DP Angelo Danieli, who is an expert on lighting designs that achieve depth and contrast even in restricted studio settings. For the TCI facility, Danieli and the ARRI team opted for 20 L7-C fixtures, which permit color temperature, tint and hue to be continuously adjusted from 2,800 K to 10,000 K, between full plus or minus green and RGBW colors. The innovative ARRI L7 fixtures were chosen because they incorporate tried and tested characteristics of traditional Fresnels, such as continuous focusability from spot to flood and a smooth, homogenous light field.
The installation was commissioned by Massimo Librandi of the TCI srl company, which employs over 200 workers at its Milan base and manufactures electronic lighting components that are exported mostly to China. For the moment, programs made at the new TV studio will be distributed via web streaming, though the goal is to switch to satellite broadcasting in the near future.
Danieli's decision to equip the television studio with ARRI L7-C fixtures was made not only because of their technical advantages and exceptional light quality, but also for their cost-saving and environmentally-friendly attributes. L-Series fixtures reduce electricity usage by 75% and further savings are brought about by the exceptional life span of the LED light engine, which lasts around 200 times longer than a conventional tungsten lamp.
In addition to the LED lampheads, a range of other fixtures was supplied to TCI, including 10 ARRI True Blue Fresnels, 4 ARRI Studio Cool fluorescent lamps and 10 ARRI 650 Plus Fresnels. These, along with a console, trusses and various other accessories, combined to form a comprehensive lighting package that brings the studio facility in line with the highest quality and design standards.
Davide Bernarello of ARRI Italy was involved in the project from the very beginning and supported the choice of lighting fixtures. He notes, "The TCI television studio was a great project. Following our previous TV studio lighting installation in Albania, the ARRI team again supported the client at each stage of the project realization. We were able to provide a complete lighting package, including lampheads, suspension and support equipment, and control systems. The L7 fixtures were the perfect choice because the height of the studio was optimal and because LEDs do not overheat the environment. Since TCI is one of the leading manufacturing companies in the lighting sector, we were especially proud to make this project a big success."
