A much larger contingent of ARRI staff is attending the 2016 Cannes Film Festival than in previous years, reflecting the importance of the event across several of the company's business units.
Highlights from ARRI’s presence at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.
In association with the PGA (Producers Guild of America), the APC (French Producers Association) and Film France, ARRI hosted a producers' drinks reception on Saturday afternoon at the Film France terrace in the Pantiero International Village. Undeterred by a downpour that briefly interrupted the otherwise sunny weather, guests from a wide variety of different countries and production backgrounds came along to talk with ARRI representatives and see the latest ARRI technology.
On Sunday ARRI hosted a busy cocktail hour at the Director's Fortnight beach-side base: the Plage Quinzaine, facing the Grand Hotel. This was attended by both well-established and emerging directors and cinematographers, many of whom have films in competition at the festival.
At both events ARRI showcased its new-generation products: ARRI Rental displayed its flagship ALEXA 65 system, as used by some of the world's top filmmakers, while ARRI Camera Systems presented an ALEXA SXT with the Anamorphic Ultra Wide Zoom, an ALEXA Mini in 4:3 mode with a Master Anamorphic, and an AMIRA with a lightweight Alura Zoom. ARRI Lighting promoted the SkyPanel S30 and S60 LED soft lights, recently updated with 10 new features via the free-to-download Firmware 2.0.
Members of the ARRI Media and World Sales teams were on hand at both events to discuss film production, postproduction and distribution. ARRI Media also had its own booth at the film market, where a further ALEXA Mini and SkyPanel were on display to illustrate the potential synergies and inter-connected customer benefits of ARRI's varied business divisions.
