ALEXA shoots 'The Three Musketeers' in 3D
State-of-the-art ARRI ALEXA digital cameras are being used on a new big-budget, 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers. ARRI Rental in Munich is providing an extensive lighting and grip package to the production, while post services will be supplied by ARRI Film & TV.
A Constantin Film and Impact Pictures production in association with NEF Productions and New Legacy, The Three Musketeers has been adapted from Alexandre Dumas' classic novel by acclaimed writer Andrew Davies and Alex Litvak, and is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Its impressive cast of international stars includes Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen, Gabriella Wilde, James Corden, Juno Temple, Freddie Fox, Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz. Anderson and his Impact Pictures partner Jeremy Bolt and Constantin Film's Robert Kulzer are producing. Martin Moszkowicz, board member of Constantin Film and head of Film & TV, is executive producing.
The film's adventure-filled plot follows the hot-headed young D'Artagnan as he joins forces with three veteran Musketeers to prevent the villainous Cardinal Richelieu from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.
Filming began late August on location in Bavaria and moved to Studio Babelsberg in Berlin early October. Cinematographer Glen MacPherson, CSC, ASC, is shooting with multiple ALEXA cameras, supplied by 3D specialist firm PACE.
ALEXA has swiftly become the camera of choice for major 3D productions, having already been put to work on Martin Scorsese's Hugo Cabret, also supplied by PACE. As one of the world's leading innovators in 3D imaging, PACE was quick to see the incredible production advantages of ALEXA and has made a significant investment in ARRI's latest digital camera system.
The Three Musketeers is due for release in late 2011.
