Bis aufs Blut - Brüder auf Bewährung, the multiple award-winning young adult drama, is the thesis film of Oliver Kienle (director), Verena Monssen and Jonathan Hild (producers), Moritz Reinecke (DoP) and Patrick Eppler (editor), who graduated together from one of Germany's most prestigious film schools, the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. The feature was produced by CP Medien AG in co-production with the Südwestrundfunk and the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Filming took place from mid-April until the end of May 2009 in Würzburg and the surrounding areas.

On behalf of CP Medien AG, ARRI Film & TV created the 35mm print using the ARRILASER and ran the release prints for the film's German distributor, Camino Filmverleih.

The film addresses, in a believable and rather complex manner, the requirements and challenges young adults face growing up in a small town in Germany. This authentic account of the tragic story of a friendship and, with its choice of events, images and tragicomic moments, reveals this generation's attitude towards life.

Tommy and Sule are almost like brothers. Their friendship is steadfast. Their friends are their family. Their childhood dream is to own a custom car garage. Life is like a party until Tommy gets arrested by the police for selling drugs and has to serve a short sentence in juvenile hall. Upon his release from prison six months later he has to adjust to a new world because a lot has changed: the Americans are gone; Nina, his first love, has a new boyfriend; and his mother is threatening to throw him out. And so, although he's vowed never to return to prison, there's only one person who's there for him: Sule. And Sule has a plan to make their childhood dream of owning a custom car garage come true - a deal of a lifetime.
